Valuing the teaching career in the Peruvian reality: analysis of key factors; Valorización de la carrera docente en la realidad del Perú: análisis de factores clave

Abstract

The objective of the study was to analyze the key factors in the valuation of the teaching career in Peru. A desk review of statistical data presented by the Peruvian Ministry of Education (Minedu) through the National Survey of Teachers (Endo) revealed that the perception of the teaching career is strongly influenced by factors such as economic remuneration, access to continuing education, institutional support and social valuation of the profession. In addition, structural barriers that limit professional development are identified, such as lack of resources and inadequate educational infrastructure. A multidimensional approach is required, where economic, social and cultural aspects are integrated to achieve a significant change in the perception and recognition of educational work in the country. It concludes that despite the educational policies implemented in recent years, there is still a negative perception of the profession, causing a lack of motivation among educators. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
