Diagnosis of the Intercultural Educational Context for Child Care of the Yanesha Tsachopen Community in Oxapampa-Peru; Diagnóstico del Contexto Educativo Intercultural para la Atención Infantil de la Comunidad Yanesha Tsachopen en Oxapampa-Perú

Abstract

In Peru, intercultural education faces diverse problems, like bilingual education or the discredit of autochthonous knowledge. Particularly, in the Tsachopen community, the reduction of ancestral knowledge is observed. Due to this reason, the purpose of this research is to diagnose the intercultural educational context for childcare in the Yanesha Tsachopen Community in Oxapampa-Peru. A qualitative methodology was applied in which, through a document analysis guide, 10 intercultural education policy documents in Peru were reviewed, regarding the characteristics of educational management of the Tsachopen community, and its cultural and educational characteristics. Finally, the results show that Peruvian educational policy documents promote intercultural bilingual education; but the Tsachopen community only has an initial and primary level school system to which not everyone has access. In addition, education is linked to their ancestral culture and customs. © 2023 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
