The objective of the study was to analyze the sociocultural and obstetric factors associated with incomplete abortion in peruvian women treated at a Level II Hospital. It was carried out an investigation of cases and controls, according to STROBE criteria. A total of 140 women with a diagnosis of incomplete abortion and 140 women with normal gestation, randomly selected from January to December 2017, participated in the Hospital Nivel II Huaycán de Ate, Perú. An instrument prepared by the authors was applied and validated by expert judgment to collect the socio-cultural characteristics by a survey and by reviewing the medical history of the obstetric characteristics. In the analysis, the X2 test was applied with a p value <0.05 to estimate associations and the odds ratio with a confidence interval of 95%. Subsequently adjusted odds ratios were obtained by logistic regression analysis. The factors with significant bivariate association were: maternal age >35 years (p= 0.0006), single marital status (p= 0.022), married marital status (p= 0.001), primary education level (p= 0.04), multiparity (p= 0.0004), gestational age ≤12 weeks (p= 0.0001) and urinary infection (p= 0.041). The multivariate analysis showed an association of maternal age> 35 years (OR= 2.64, 95% CI= 1.12-6.24), single marital status (OR= 2.59, 95% CI= 1.23-5.44), multiparity (OR= 2.61, 95% CI= 1.30-5.23) and gestational age ≤12 weeks (OR= 7.11, 95% CI= 3.61-13.97). Maternal age> 35 years, marital status, gestational age ≤12 weeks and multiparity are risk factors for incomplete abortion regardless of the level of education and infection of urinary tract. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
