The purpose of this study was focused on revealing how the competence of the university tutor affects research praxis. The research corresponds to a theoretical documentary and / or bibliographic review. Advancement in university institutions requires that tutors in their practice be competent, where they understand that research is essential for the generation of knowledge in the different fields of human knowledge, in addition to its effective and critical application in the face of a specific purpose that configures one of the main key competences of the tutor, which is why the production of knowledge based on critical, reflective and investigative work by the tutor in his practice arises, achieving the search, identification and creation of those scientific and humanistic knowledge that give answers, in the first instance, to any scenario and environment of educational problems that arise. © 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
